Orchha Heritage Walk

Orchha’s monuments, remnants of a bygone era, gave rise to legends that are alive to this day. This walking tour introduces you to the tumultous history of Orchha and its colourful rulers. It covers the major sites of Orchha, including a visit to the fort complex and its splendid palaces. It also gives you a glimpse into daily life in bazaars and shrines, where centuries-old traditions live on.

It is a 3-hour tour with a break in between for tea and refreshments.

Start Time: 9 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Start point: Orchha palace ticket gate

Walk coverage:

  • Raja Mahal, the splendid royal palace
  • Jahangir Mahal, the extravagant castle gifted by the Bundelas to the Mughal Emperor
  • Hardaul Baitka and Bazaar, a shrine to a Bundela prince who became a folk god
  • Ramraja Temple, built by the royals to honour the Hindu god Rama – considered the true king of Orchha
  • Chaturbhuj temple, a magnificent temple to Lord Krishna, the favourite deity of Bundela king Madhukar Shah

End point: Chaturbhuj temple
